Inaugurals are supposed to be auspicious, aren't they? In this blog I hope to inform, educate, and discuss my writing. My interests are varied, so the ride will be a little crazy. Think of it as getting hit by a shotgun blast.

A Shelf of World Landmarks

The latest project I've completed is the second in a two volume set of guides aimed at the collector of Landmark Books. You remember those, don't you? Anyone with a childhood that spanned the 50's, 60's, or 70's (or all three if you never grew up) knows what I'm talking about. At the age of 12 I devoted a summer trying to read as many of this series as I could. Later, while visiting used bookstores, I'd let my son pick out a Landmark book to take home with him. It's that small beginning that grew into the collection I maintain today, a source of conversation at home due to the space it takes up. Along with my best friend Dan (whose collection is even larger than my own), we investigated the obvious and not so obvious differences that we encountered. It was like quicksand (or an asylum), and we've never quite escaped. Along the way we documented what we learned. We wrote the first guide covering American Landmark books back in 2003. It took us 16 years to get around to updating that volume, and to issue the companion guide covering the World Landmark series.

Pause for commercial> Both are available for sale on Amazon should you so desire - see the Landmark Guides page on this site for more information. <Resume normal programming.

I intend to share information about Landmark Books on this site. The thing about Landmarks is that every day Dan and I stumble onto something novel and disruptive about these books. Things we've taken as holy infallible writ are overturned in a moment. In the end, we've concluded that the only thing about Landmarks that's 100% true is that nothing is ever 100% true.

So welcome aboard - stay tuned - don't touch that dial.
