Just had an article published in the Journal of the Orders and Medals Society of America. It addresses medals issued by the New York Guard during the period 1940-1949. Most people don't know much about the New York Guard, which was distinct from the New York National Guard. When the National Guard was mobilized for WWII, New York State recruited a replacement military force. The New York Guard reached a strength of about 20,000 men in 1945. Personnel received both state and regimental/organizational medals - my article describes all known types of awards that were issued.
The Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) publishes its well-respected Journal 6 times a year. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in military history in general and medals and awards specifically. Both digital and hard copy subscriptions are available. Search for OMSA on the internet and the website will walk you though joining. I recommend this organization. They hold an annual convention (this year it's in Houston) which is a chance to meet the world authorities on many aspects of American and World decorations.
